Application in prosthetic care

The standardized macu4 prosthesis systems are suitable if certain requirements are met. If these requirements are not fully met, we will work with you to determine how we can offer a more customized design.

When and for whom the standardized prosthetic solutions can be used

Forearm length > 50mm

In order for the prosthetic system to be used safely and stably, the forearm stump should have a minimum length of approximately 5 cm. An upper arm connection is often recommended.

Absence of hand and wrist

The standardized macu4 prosthetic systems are suitable when there is no hand or wrist and therefore no active gripping function.

Functional elbow joint and shoulder

Functionally mobile elbow and shoulder joints are important for active use and precise control of the arm.

Forearm deficiency since birth

Dysmelia describes congenital differences in the limbs. In the upper extremities, the arm, wrist, or hand may be partially or completely missing, making grasping difficult or impossible.

Common limitations

1 | The function of the upper extremity can be affected in many different ways.
2 | Affected individuals often find their own creative ways in everyday life, but sometimes encounter functional limitations.

Possible uses for a macu4 product

1 | Early functional support and promotion of participation.
2 | Use in everyday life, play, sports, and water thanks to a robust, simple system.
3 | Easy adjustment to growth and changing requirements.

Additional criteria for assessment

1 | Indications include dysmelia.
2 | Depending on the severity, a prosthesis or orthosis system may be suitable.
3 | Individual adjustment may be necessary if residual finger are present.

Forearm deficiency due to amputation

Amputation refers to the loss of limbs, such as a hand or arm, as a result of an accident, illness, or medical procedure. If the hand and wrist are missing, it is no longer possible to grasp objects.

Common limitations

1 | The hand is often still usable.
2 | However, it feels unstable or painful during certain activities.
3 | This is particularly challenging during strenuous or two-handed activities.

Possible uses for a macu4 product

1 | Functional support for selected activities.
2 | Enables activity even when immobilized.
3 | Comfortable solutions for altered sensitivity, for example due to scarring.
4 | Suitable as a temporary solution thanks to standard sizes.

Additional criteria for assessment

1 | Indications include reconstruction after trauma, tendon injuries, fractures, CRPS.
2 | Resilience and healing process must be taken into account.
3 | Consultation with specialists is recommended.

Supporting people with changing individual needs

Individual requirements for prosthetic care can change over the course of a lifetime. Growth, new activities, or changing roles in everyday life mean that the need for functional support must also be adapted. The macu4 systems are designed to support people even as their individual needs change. Typical changes relate to growth, new activities or hobbies, new roles in everyday life, need for less sweating in a socket, and the transition from rehabilitation to everyday life.
