Application in orthotic care
macu4 orthotic systems are used in cases of limited or absent grip function when the wrist and, if necessary, hand structures are present. Typical symptoms include loss of strength, pain, instability, or limited mobility. The focus is on supporting function and activity.

Use in therapy
In therapy, macu4 orthotic systems can be used as functional aids to pursue selected therapeutic goals. Further information on therapeutic use can be found in the Therapy Guide.

Temporary use
Thanks to the availability of ready-made sizes, functional support can also be provided on a temporary basis without the need for long-term care. This may be the case, for example, after injuries or surgical procedures, during rehabilitation, or in transitional phases.

Long-term use
In cases of permanently impaired grip function, an orthotic system can be used long-term. The aim is to support existing hand function in everyday life and to continuously involve the affected side in activities.

Use in rheumatic diseases
Rheumatic diseases can affect the hand and wrist, leading to pain, loss of strength, instability, or limited mobility. It is recommended that you consult with specialists for a diagnosis.
Common limitations
1 | Grasping is often possible, but strenuous, painful, or unsafe.
2 | In everyday life, the affected hand is therefore often used less, especially for activities involving greater strain or tasks requiring both hands.

Possible uses for a macu4 product
1 | Support for the gripping function in cases of limited strength or stability.
2 | Relief for painful structures during active use.
3 | Assistance with mobility aids such as walkers or crutches.

Use in neurological disorders
Neurological disorders affect the nervous system and lead to a wide variety of functional impairments. It is recommended that you seek clarification from specialists.
Common limitations
1 | Grasping is often possible, but limited.
2 | In addition to limited grasping function, loss of strength, sensory disturbances, spasticity, or coordination problems may also occur.

Use in congenital conditions
Congenital limitations are present from birth. Consultation with specialists is recommended.
Common limitations
1 | The function of the upper extremity can be affected in many different ways.
2 | For orthotic treatment, it is crucial to consider how the hand, wrist, and arm can be used functionally, not just the diagnosis.

Use for post-traumatic/post-operative limitations
After injuries or operations on the hand or wrist, gripping may be temporarily or permanently difficult.
Common limitations
1 | The hand is often still usable.
2| However, it feels unstable or painful during certain activities.
3 | This is particularly challenging during strenuous or two-handed activities.

Supporting people with changing individual needs
Individual requirements for orthotic care can change over the course of a lifetime. Growth, new activities, or changing roles in everyday life mean that the need for functional support must also be adapted. The macu4 systems are designed to support people even as their individual needs change. Typical changes relate to growth, new activities or hobbies, new roles in everyday life, progressive clinical pictures, and the transition from rehabilitation to everyday life.
