At the same time, they often require precise coordination between both hands. While one hand guides a tool or moves a card, the other stabilises the material, holds several cards or positions an object. If grip function is limited on one side, small and lightweight objects may slip or may only be held with additional effort. This can lead to compensatory movements in the hand, arm, shoulder or upper body. A suitable aid supports the affected side in holding and positioning objects securely, allowing more attention to remain on the project or the game. Macu4 offers three different systems for these activities. Which system is suitable depends on the individual situation and the appropriate base solution.

The Lynk System with the Hold STD Module is suitable for orthotic support when grip function is not sufficiently reliable. The base encases the forearm in the form of a lightweight orthosis and provides a secure attachment point for the Hold STD Module. The flexible module head is shaped like a clamp and adapts to different objects and forms. A crafting tool, several playing cards or another lightweight material can be positioned in the module head and then securely fixed using the hook-and-loop strap. Flat objects can also be inserted into the lateral slot. This allows cards, paper or cardboard, for example, to be held more securely and protected from rotating unintentionally. The orientation of the module head can be adjusted individually. This allows materials to be positioned at a suitable angle, for example to make playing cards easier to see or to stabilise a workpiece while drawing, gluing and creating. Before use, it should be checked that the object is correctly positioned and securely fastened. When lightweight materials or tools are held reliably, less active gripping with the fingers is required. This allows fine motor activities to be carried out with greater control and may reduce unnecessary tension or compensatory movements in the hand, arm and shoulder. This supports more independent and ergonomic participation in crafting and playing cards.

The Explorer System is suitable for prosthetic fitting of the forearm in adults. macu4’s lightweight, 3D-printed Explorer System consists of a socket, the Explorer Ring as a connecting component, and a module for the relevant activity. The Pinch Module or the Hold Module can be used for crafting and playing cards. The Pinch Module enables smaller, lighter and cylindrical objects to be held securely. A slim crafting tool, a pen or another suitable object can be placed between the module fingers. The gripping force of the module fingers can be reduced or increased using the button on the side, allowing it to be adapted to the diameter of the object and the required holding force. Small cylindrical objects can also be pressed from above into the slot with the oval openings until they click securely into place. The integrated ball joint allows the entire module to be individually aligned. A tool can therefore be positioned at a suitable angle so that it can be guided in a controlled way while supporting a more natural arm position. The Hold Module is suitable for lightweight objects and materials that need to be held securely and positioned appropriately. Paper, cardboard, cards or a suitable crafting tool are placed in the flexible module head and secured with a hook-and-loop strap. The integrated ball joint allows the module head to be adjusted to the specific activity. For example, playing cards can be held in an easily visible position, or materials can be stabilised while cutting, gluing and creating. Both modules hold the relevant object in a defined position and can be attached to and detached from the Explorer System. They can be configured with or without length compensation using an integrated spacer. The appropriate configuration is determined during the measurement process. When tools, materials or cards are held securely and aligned appropriately, fine motor and two-handed tasks can be carried out more purposefully. This may reduce compensatory movements and support more independent and ergonomic participation in crafting and playing.

The Lumo System is the child-friendly solution. It consists of a cuff or socket for young users and features interchangeable modules, allowing it to be adapted to different activities that your child may want to try. When crafting and playing, the Lumo Clamp Module gives a small hand a simple and secure way to hold flat and lightweight materials. The Clamp Module secures smaller and lighter objects such as paper, cardboard or a few playing cards in its clamp. This allows your child to use both sides when crafting, building or playing cards and to take part with friends or siblings instead of only watching. The system can be put on and taken off quickly. This is particularly helpful for young children, who often have limited patience when equipment is being fitted. It also remains light enough for small arms, helping to prevent unnecessary fatigue during play. Through playing and creating, children learn and connect with others.
